Agree the job.
Then price the build.
Screens, roles, data and connections all affect the work. You get a written scope and quote before production build work starts.
What goes into the quote?
- The first useful release
- The tasks it covers, user roles, screens and agreed checks. Additional features are identified separately.
- Discovery and prototype
- What is investigated or demonstrated, which data is used and the cost of any paid early work.
- Data and connections
- Imports, account access, supported APIs, approval rules, error handling and the checks for each integration.
- Code and handover
- Project work transfers on full payment unless agreed otherwise. Existing Flying Penguin tools and third-party components retain their own ownership and licences. Repository access, exports and notes are specified.
- Costs after launch
- Hosting, backups, email, payment providers, app stores and other usage charges where applicable. We identify who holds the accounts and pays each provider.
- Support and changes
- The agreed follow-up, maintenance, response arrangements and price for continuing work. New features and provider changes have their own scope.
Work is quoted for the project. No VAT is currently charged. The proposal and main service terms explain the arrangements before you commit.

How much does custom software cost?
It depends on the tasks, screens, user roles, data and connections. We agree a defined scope and written quote before build work starts, including any paid discovery or prototype work.
Will I own the code?
Project work transfers on full payment, unless agreed otherwise in writing. Flying Penguin’s existing proprietary tools and third-party software retain their own ownership and licences. The proposal explains the handover.
Can we use our current systems?
That is often a useful starting point. We check the accounts, access, APIs and existing data before deciding what should connect, stay or change.
